Bio

A proud Canadian, Mona returned to Canada upon completion of her M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Minnesota–Minneapolis to continue a rewarding, challenging and passionate professional career.

Early career opportunities in out-patient pediatric hospital and children’s treatments centres, coupled with the later responsibility to develop and expand home care speech-language pathology services in Northwestern Ontario for both adults and children, provided extensive experience in the provision of broad-based services to a diverse population in varied settings. In 1988 Mona established and served as Director for a thriving multi-disciplinary practice in Northwestern Ontario, based in Thunder Bay, offering comprehensive services to all age groups in urban, rural and remote communities. During this period, she developed strong ties with indigenous communities to develop, provide and support the delivery of speech and language services, and was recognized as a leader in developing innovative service delivery models to address services in remote communities (This practice continues to operate under new ownership since 2015).

Mona has extensive experience providing comprehensive services to preschool and school-aged children, partnering with family, caregivers and educators to optimize outcomes. She maintains a special interest in assisting children with language—learning disabilities to enhance learning experiences and help children succeed. Her diverse roles have provided her with broad experience working with adults with acquired speech, language and communication difficulties, collaborating with family and community supports.

Other areas of professional experience include the development and provision of group training programs to improve communication in the workplace, as well as training and experience in the area of accent modification to assist individuals for whom English is not a first language, to enhance communication abilities.

Committed to ongoing professional education and lifelong learning, Mona enjoys and appreciates a balanced life with her husband, children, grandchildren and friends; traveling, fitness, gardening, reading, tennis and golf.
